The work begins with the perceptual systems associated with Bridget Riley and applies them to images inherited from elsewhere. A subject may remain recognizable while its visual logic changes.

The early Basquiat work is a collision between two histories. One supplies the subject. The other supplies the mechanism. Something comes after. The question is what remains.
